Creating A Modern Garden Center Workshop
Saturday, July 13, 7:45 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. | Cost: $165
What makes a garden center modern? How do you keep up with new trends and the ever-changing customer? Held at the Franklin Park Conservatory, during this full-day, peer-to-peer workshop, top retail experts from around the world will share their inspiration, plans, hurdles, and how they stay relevant to today's consumer. You will leave with the plans and inspiration to implement similar ideas in your own garden center and will also have the opportunity to share your ideas with other attendees. This workshop will conclude with a networking session (with a mixology class!) in the gardens at the beautiful Franklin Park Conservatory.
Join our panel of creative and ambitious leaders in the garden retail industry, who will share their tips for getting inspired and staying innovative when it comes to creating the modern garden center. Biocontrols Workshop: The How-To's of Quality Control and Application Methods

Have you ever wondered how many mites are really in that bottle? Do you wonder if those nematodes can really kill fly larva? Come learn how to count, test, sex and many other useful skills in this biocontrol workshop. Participants will learn many useful skills, such as applying beneficials and receiving biocontrols, which can be used back in the greenhouse, helping make their biocontrol programs stronger. Kits will be provided with the tools needed for implementing strategies learned during the workshop. We will also head offsite to a greenhouse to learn more about applying beneficials and other real-world skills. Workshop speakers are: Suzanne Wainwright-Evans, Buglady Consulting; John Sanderson, Cornell University; and Rose Buitenhuis, Vineland Research & Innovation Centre.
CareerUP - Define Your Future

CareerUP is a day-long workshop designed to teach emerging professionals the softer or intangible skills needed to be successful and progress in your career. This year’s speakers will focus on improving team dynamics and communication; highlighting the skills needed to resolve conflict and have tough conversations and discuss how to better deal with change and let go of the fears that may be holding you back. It's All About the Workforce

Designed for horticulture HR, safety professionals, and green business owners, this workshop is for those who source, recruit, onboard and train employees. Topics to be covered include H2A Reform, Recruiting and Engaging Seasonal Labor, and Creating a Culture of Safety in the workplace in a highly interactive seminar that will promote sharing of lessons learned and successes in attracting and keeping a well-trained labor force. Speakers include Patrick Berschauer, Safety and Wellness Manager at Smith Gardens, Inc. plus a panel discussion on immigration labor with expert attorney Chris Schulte of CJ Lake LLC, a leading firm and long-time partner of AmericanHort, Ann Margaret Pointer and Josh Viau attorneys with Fisher Phillips, another leading firm specializing in human resource and labor relation issues.
The Art of Giving Great Service Workshop

Zingerman’s has set the standard for great customer service in the specialty food industry. This success comes from combining an innovative service philosophy with practical working systems, all of which ZingTrain will share in this garden retailer facing Workshop. Zingerman’s approach has been successfully applied in a wide variety of businesses and non-profits that are committed to improving the quality of their customer service. This seminar will teach you the Steps to Giving Great Service and how to effectively handle customer complaints. It also teaches you how to create a culture of great service and why it’s crucial to treat your staff with as much care as you treat your customers. You will leave with a plan to create a culture of great service in your garden center. The trainer is Elnian Gilbert of ZingTrain.

Join other retailers to uncover best practices for engaging consumers, promoting plants, and growing the bottom line when we tour White Oak Gardens (voted a top 100 garden center), Delhi Gardens, and Berns Garden Center. Over the course of a day, (that includes lunch!) we'll visit each garden center to see what they're doing to stay relevant and successful. See how each store manages individualized products, specialties, and different customer bases.
Greenhouse Production Tour
Saturday, July 13, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. | Cost: $125
On this tour, you will see two large production facilities in the Cleveland, Ohio area. At Corso's Perennials, we will tour a large production facility that supplies box stores like Lowe's and Home Depot with a variety of perennials. Green Circle Growers is an industry leader whose Just Add Ice Orchids are well-known across the nation. You will get a glimpse into their highly-technological orchid and ornamental production facilities.
Nursery Production Tour
Saturday, July 13, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. | Cost: $125
The first stop on this tour is the Ohio Agricultural and Research Development Center in Wooster, Ohio where you will see a demonstration of a new, cutting-edge water and fertilizer injection system for nurseries. From there we will go to Willoway Nursery where you will see how the injector system has been integrated into their operations. We will also tour the grounds at both Willoway Nursery and Davis Tree Farm and Nursery where we will learn more about their tree and shrub production
Research and Innovation Tour

Flower Run 5k

The fourth annual Flower Run, sponsored by AmericanHort, GIE Media and Luxflora, celebrates Luxflora’s mission to develop a visionary, influential floriculture network in which women leaders can create, inspire, and flourish. This is an opportunity for all of us to come together to network, build relationships, and to have some healthy fun.
The Flower Run 5K run is held at 6 AM on Sunday morning at Wolfe Park on Sunday, July 13. You can register in advance when you register for other Cultivate events or join us the morning of the race.
